North American Winter: Topography & Snow Cover The North American continent as seen from space in winter with international borders and a 15° latitude and longitude grid. It shows land and snow cover in unparalleled detail as it appears in the month of February. This satellite image of north America in winter is the most accurate and up to date such map available today. The land imagery is based on data collected by NASA’s MODIS satellite instrumentation in February 2004. Polar sea ice is not shown. Thousands of the continent’s physical features can be clearly identified. For example The Grand Canyon, Arizona, snow on the Sierras in California and the enormous Manicouagan crater in Quebec can be clearly identified. |
