An unusual satellite image of the whole world in the Spectrum World style in a Hotine Oblique Mercator projection. The colors of this style, our most popular style, are truly fantastic especially the blues. The parameters of the map projection were carefully chosen so that the distortion was relegated mostly to the oceans and to the least populated and least recognizable land masses. The result is a flat map of the whole world that exhibits very little distortion in almost all familiar areas, even at the poles. Contrast that with a Geographic projection. The level of detail of the bathymetry in this image is great. Tectonic plate boundaries and volcanically created islands and much more can be clearly seen. It shows international borders and has a 15° latitude, longitude grid.
